“The wonderful world of wine” is a book for those who want to learn more about wine. If you are simply curious about wine and want to know more, with an easy-to-read fact-filled book. Or if you’re on an organized wine course and need a modern wine course literature. “The wonderful world of wine” contains what you need, the only modern and updated wine course book in Swedish. It has now won four awards in the Gourmand Cookbook Awards: first prize (*2), second prize and third prize. Currently, the book is only available in Swedish, with the title “Vinets underbara värld”.

The world of wine is changing much more than one might think. What was true ten or twenty years ago is no longer always true. As an example, twenty years ago there was no such thing as “organic wine”. Now there is, since 2012. VDQS is mentioned in many books as “a gateway to the French AOC, appellation contrôlée”, but VDQS was abolished in 2009 in the great wine reform. And today it is called AOP, appellation d’origine protégée, and not AOC. This and much more we have squeezed into our fact-filled “The wonderful world of wine, from grape to table; viticulture, wine countries, wine tasting, wine & food “. It took us a long time to write. Filled with facts, texts and photos.

Therefore, we are really happy that the book has now won great awards in the Gourmand Awards, also called the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, the world’s biggest competition for food and beverage literature:

  • Gourmand Awards Sweden
    • First prize in the category “world wines”
    • First prize in the category “wine tourism”
  • Gourmand Awards International
    • Second prize, globally, in the World Wine category
    • Third prize, globally, in the Wine Tourism category

We are very happy and proud that the book is honoured with these awards. It is a big job to make a book that covers the whole world and which also has the ambition to be really updated and fact-checked. Several of our previous books have been honoured in the same way.  We clearly remember when we first participated in the competition. It was 2011 and the award ceremony was at the infamous Folies Bergères Theater in Paris. To our great surprise and joy, we were bid to come on stage and receive the award “World’s Best Wine Book for Professionals” for our then recently published “The Creation of a Wine”, still the only Swedish book that explains in detail about viticulture and wine production.

Gourmand World Cookbook Awards was founded in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau. Every year they choose the best food and wine books. Many thousands of books participate in the competition with representatives from almost every country in the world. The Gourmand Awards have been compared to the “Oscars” for film.
