Piedmont, wines, regions, producers is an indispensable guide for those who want to know more about this world famous wine region, its wines and its winemakers. The book is part of the series Guide to the World of Wine and is written and photographed by Britt Karlsson and Per Karlsson, multiple award-winning wine book authors. The book is in a convenient pocket format and richly illustrated, and at the same time full of facts, written by experts in the field.
Barolo and Barbaresco are the two big names in Piedmont. Wine for kings and the king of wines. These are two of Italy’s most famous wine regions. Here the challenging grape Nebbiolo produces wines of world class. But there are many other things to discover in the Piedmont. For example the excellent red wines from Roero, Langhe and Monferrato. In Gavi they make refreshing white wines and the area around Asti is the source for some of Italy’s most popular sparkling wines.
They are very proud of their own traditional indigenous grapes in Piedmont, some exist almost only here. Barbera, Dolcetto, Brachetto, Freisa, Grignolino, Ruché, Arneis, Cortese, Favorita, and many more. Each has its own special character. They are also very proud of the Piedmontese gastronomy. Rice is important, almost more important than pasta and they have a special breed of cattle that is used for the famous carne cruda. And perhaps most famous of all, the exclusive white truffle from Alba.
Piedmont, wines, regions, producers takes you on a journey through this beautiful landscape. In addition to the classics Barolo and Barbaresco it is at least as exciting to explore all the other wine regions in Piedmont, many of which are still not so well-known. When in Piedmont, that stretches from the Alps almost down to the Mediterranean Sea, you often have the snow-covered mountain tops as a background when travelling around the vineyards. A fitting backdrop for these impressive and fascinating wines.
