In the past year, our latest book “Champagne, The Wine And The Growers” (“Champagne, vinet och odlarna” in the original language) has been acclaimed and won prizes in two prestigious contexts, by the OIV, the International Organization of Vine and Wine in Paris, and by Gourmand International in China.
“Champagne, The Wine And The Growers” talks about the wine called champagne, how champagne is made, the history and geography of the region and of course how and with what to serve champagne. A large part of the book is dedicated to the growers who produce the now so popular “growers’ champagne”, i.e. champagne made by smaller producers, often family-owned, who own their vineyards and make their own wine. (Unlike the famous “houses”, the famous champagne brands, that are often more industrially produced.) It is one of very few books (and the only one in Swedish) that explains in detail, with updated info and factually correct descriptions about everything you might want to know about this bubbly wine. The book is published in Swedish.
Special mention from the OIV
In OIV’s annual book competition, the Champagne book received a “special mention” in the category “Monographs and Special Studies” for its in-depth description of the growers of champagne and the wine region. OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) is an international organization for collaboration and coordination between wine-producing countries (a bit like a “UN for wine”) with a technical and scientific focus. Each year they give awards to books published during the past year that they find particularly valuable for the wine world. Books from 19 different countries participated in the competition this year.
The prize was handed over by OIV’s new president Regina Vanderlinde from Brazil, and OIV’s Director-General Jean-Marie Aurand, at a ceremony at the OIV headquarters in Paris.
We are of course very, very happy and honoured that the OIV has appreciated our book in this way!
We have previously received OIV’s award in the “Wine and Territories” category for the book “Vinlandet France” (France, The Country Of Wine).
These are the only Swedish books ever to have been honoured in the OIV book competition.
On the podium in Gourmand International
After winning the first prize in the “French wines” category in the Swedish edition of the Gourmand Awards in 2017, “Champagne, the wine and the growers” was nominated – shortlisted – for the international final of Gourmand International’s book competition, which took place in China earlier this year.
There, the book was awarded a very honourable (we think!) third place in the Best in the World “French Wine” category in fierce international competition.

Three different honours
So to summarise, Champagne, The Wine And The Growers has been given three honours:
- First prize in the category French Wines, by Gourmand Awards Sweden
- Nominated (or “shortlisted”) and then winning third prize in the category French Wines, by Gourmand International
- Special Mention by the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) in the category Monographs and special studies
