Burgundy, wines, regions, producers is an indispensable guide for those who want to know more about this world famous wine region, its wines and its winemakers. The book is part of the series Guide to the World of Wine and is written and photographed by Britt Karlsson and Per Karlsson, multiple award-winning wine book authors. The book is in a convenient pocket format and richly illustrated, and at the same time full of facts, written by experts in the field.
In Burgundy they make a wide range of wines, from some of the world’s most expensive wines to juicy Beaujolais Nouveau. It is between these two extremes that one can find the most exciting wines among all those made in Burgundy. It is a region with an abundance of world famous names: Côte d’Or, Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits, Mâcon, Côte Chalonnaise and Beaujolais. At first sight one might think that Burgundy can be a bit difficult to get to grips with, but that is also what makes this region particularly exciting. If you scratch the surface a little bit you will find an abundance of small producers, very talented winemakers, and delicious wines at very reasonable prices. In one respect Burgundy wines are very easy to understand: the whites are almost always made from Chardonnay and the reds are made from Pinot Noir, except Beaujolais that is Gamay.
But Burgundy is not only wine, the region is sometimes called “the belly of France”. This is the origin of some of the best-known French dishes, like coq au vin and boeuf bourguignon, tasty Charolais beef, and exclusive chickens from Bresse. They also make some of Frances best cheese here.
Burgundy – the wines, the regions, the producers gives just the little extra knowledge that you need to find your way around all the names and all the producers. You will discover a new world of wines. The landscape is pastoral, there are no big chateaux, no vast and flat fields with vines that stretch to the horizon. Instead there are small wine villages, almost each one with a café, a bakery, and of course a restaurant. A wine and food landscape that you must discover!
The book is part of the series Guide to the World of Wine, written and photographed by Britt Karlsson and Per Karlsson, multiple award-winning wine book authors.
The book, and the whole series, has been named Best Book of the Year, category Travel Guides, by The Gastronomy Academy, Best Gastronomic Literature Awards.
