Denmark gets its first ”AOC”

Perhaps a slight exaggeration – Denmark has had approved four regional denominations for its wines. According to European regulations a “new” wine district must first prove its capability of producing quality wines before getting the right to use a geographically specific denomination (initially it is simply “table wine”). Denmark has now graduated from “table wine” to four regional denominations: Jutland, Fyn, Sjaelland and Bornholm. There are 26 registered wine producers sharing a grand total of 20 hectares.
