Interview with Cesar Compadre (Part II) on the current situation and the future of Bordeaux. Cesar Compadre is a reporter in South West Group, 100% dedicated to wines and spirits.
Caesar speaks of what is at stake in promoting the wines of Bordeaux. There is a problem of scale, even if the CIVB with a budget of more than 30 million. To promote the wines of Bordeaux is important, but with 54 names and with wines that range from 2 euro to 800 euro there is such diversity that it is not easy.
Is there a place for wine brands? Cesar explains that there are basically a Bordeaux wine market castles! Wine brand, unless they are attached to the name of a castle, very difficult. You have to see how the market works and how the trade! In Bordeaux there are great wines, Great Classified Growths, but we must remember that the average price of Bordeaux wines in supermarkets is 4.30 euro. Small Bordeaux great wines need to develop the market.
We approach with Cesar Compadre the mid-range: In the middle there are a wide range of affordable wines, with a very good value for money – in a price range of 5 to 20 euro. What advice can you give producers of these wines? Must be good, but those who do not go are gone. You have to trade shows, go abroad, participate in missions, meet journalists and so on. There are all the work of the wine tourism. But anyway, it’s not easy! Those who are doing well, it’s those travailent on marketing and selling more directly to the consumer, those who work hard, make an effort.
