The Burgundy organization BIVB predicts a harvest volume that will be between “normal” and “abundant”, depending on what part of the region you are and how you worked in the vineyard. The volume can be significantly influenced by, for example, how you have cropped and how you have managed the vineyard during the summer.
It is also believed that it will be a vintage of good quality, except if the vineyard has produced too large yields. In that case, In which case a “commercial” vintage is expected with wines to be drunk young.
The harvest volume is estimated to be 1.5 million hectolitres, an increase of 20% from 2016.
But it is only in central Burgundy, Côte d’Or and surrounding areas that the situation looks so good. In many other parts of Burgundy, for example in Chablis and Beaujolais, it will be a small harvest due to hail, frost, and drought.
